The Savoy speaks to the sheer imagination of Bill Sofield's work. While the designer often looks to mirrors as a placeholder, or even an alternative to art, the Savoy is equal part looking glass and gateway to fantasy. A running vine motif transforms a Georgian form-complete with a swan neck pediment and a spiral finial-to something organic, sculptural, and new.
While the scale of the Savoy makes a statement, a modest taper from top to bottom adds a hint of lightness to the form. The flow of the vine offers a sense of dimension. Often, the size will encourage placement in a large foyer or over a fireplace.
