Laura Kirar invents a geometric, altogether unfussy, Vienna Secession twist on a double pedestal dining table. Depending on the finish, it can look either modern or more vintage. The Vienna has a fixed pedestal section-with a split on each end-allowing one person to add fillers.
The top has Mozambique veneer, carefully selected for strong crossfire enjoyable through even a dark finish, and a blend border. While the Vienna can be dramatic in a light finish, consideration should be given to the strength of the figure. A shaped edge allows the look of an architectural step. Sweeping c-scroll legs have an unusual disc stretcher. Delicate shaping at the top of each leg, and an undercut below, create a stylized hoof foot-raised on a cast brass heel.
