This is functional art - and a personal favorite of Michael S Smith. With heavy lacquer and raised, but still muted, hand decoration, the Pentworth brings a designer touch without too much formality. Easily mixed with other Baker collections - whether traditional or modern. A great accent and an immediate classic.
This design speaks to the English fascination with, and imitation of, lacquer from the Far East. Mirrors with an elaborately "cushioned" frame of this nature were much coveted. The scored antique glass is a nod to the limitations of Baroque-era glassmaking.
