Inspired by an early Queen Anne chair, Michael S Smith designed the Surrey as a sculptural and altogether charming alternative to formal dining. Its relative height, and curving over-scrolled back, give the Surrey exceptional presence - and a room new dimension. Easily used as a flanker or a desk chair.
The Surrey is more boldly sculptural than a period piece. The back relies on multiple curves, rather than simply pitch, to achieve unexpected comfort - and a great profile. The daring sweep of the cabriole leg is balanced against the practical simplicity of the stretcher.
