BAKER KNAPP & TUBBS CONTINUES TO DIVERSIFY TO MEET THE NEEDS OF TODAY'S DESIGN COMMUNITY

CHICAGO — In 1902, Knapp & Tubbs was founded as Chicago's first wholesale decorative furniture showroom. Today, Baker Knapp & Tubbs, Inc. remains one of the largest wholesale distributors in the industry. With 17 showrooms located in the major design districts throughout the United States and with one showroom in Paris, Baker Knapp & Tubbs represents some of the most distinguished suppliers of decorative home furnishings in the world.

According to Rachel D. Kohler, group president - Interiors, the key to the company's longevity has been a commitment to the design community. "Bringing designers the finest home furnishings is the most important service we can provide."

More than 20 manufacturers are represented by Baker Knapp & Tubbs Showrooms, and the range of product spans from historic reproductions dating back to the 17th century to modern designs from today's most recognized firms. Prestigious American manufacturers include Baker, Milling Road from Baker, McGuire, E.J. Victor, Stickley, Karges, Hancock & Moore and Holland & Company. International suppliers include DeBournais and Richelieu, manufacturers of French reproductions, and Colombo U.S.A., a division of the Italian firm, Colombo Mobili. Most importantly, manufacturers such as Baker, offer a breadth of product from period pieces to contemporary designs. All told, these suppliers represent virtually every style, origin and design influence available today.

Baker Knapp & Tubbs Exclusives — Through exclusive agreements, Baker Knapp & Tubbs has expanded to offer designers unique furnishings and decorative accessories neither found in other showrooms nor seen at retail. Additionally, it is the exclusive showroom distributor of the well-respected custom upholsterer Dapha, Ltd. The High Point, N.C.-based company specializes in custom, semi-custom and original upholstery created specifically for designers. The company has an outstanding reputation to provide quality products in a quick, reliable delivery time.

BKT Collections — The demand for limited edition items available for purchase from the showroom floor led Baker Knapp & Tubbs to develop relationships with such suppliers as Arthur Brett & Sons, Ltd. and Holland & Company to create BKT Collections. The renowned English furniture maker Arthur Brett & Sons Ltd. has produced Arthur Brett Exclusives -- an assortment of 10 exquisite pieces available only through BKT Showrooms. Holland & Company, the Atlanta-based importer of English and European furniture, handcrafts reproduction furniture with the look and feel of aged antiques. Also available from the floor are antique-quality French reproductions from DeBournais, some made exclusively for BKT Showrooms. "The unique, often one-of-a-kind items provide designers with uncommon accent pieces that are immediately available for their clients," said Kohler.

BKT Collections also include one-of-a-kind items from Baker customized exclusively for Baker Knapp & Tubbs. For the BKT Decorative Accessories program, BKT Showroom buyers travel throughout the world to shop for intricate tabletop pieces in pewter, silver and fine porcelain; extraordinary lamps in brass, alabaster and marble; magnificent candlesticks; beautiful dishes and rare pottery and crystal. According to Kohler, "Working with international suppliers, many of which manufacture accessories to our specifications, ensures value and selection for our customers."

In addition to an expanding product selection, Baker Knapp & Tubbs has established an ambitious schedule of showroom events. The company has plans to host several events in showrooms across the country featuring recognized designers, manufacturers' artisans, design experts and home furnishings editors from major home and shelter publications. According to Kohler, "Today's design professionals demand more from wholesale showrooms than the standard designer discount. Baker Knapp & Tubbs is committed to being the design community's resource for uncommon product selection and educational information."
