About This Product

Understanding that electronics can be the focal point of a room, Bill Sofield created the Normandie as a functional design statement. A quarter-cut Mozambique top, with veneers selected for a depth and flicker the French call chatoyance, floats over a framed case. Slightly recessed component shelf and soft-close drawers, the latter with substantial ring pulls. Plinth base. _x000D__x000D_The Normandie is a reference to a particularly luxurious transatlantic ocean liner, bridging French and American Art Deco, in a surge of travel first prompted by Prohibition. The relatively low Modern profile of this form allows it to anchor a large painting or sculpture-as an alternative to media.

About This Collection

Interior Design magazine described Bill Sofield as “a choreographer of spaces.” Considered one of the most thoughtful design talents of his generation and a true master of Modernism, Sofield believes that design must serve the client’s individual needs and function as beautifully as it looks. Sofield’s design approach introduces creative tension that allows the character of a room to reveal itself over time. And his furniture and product design map out each object’s future, designing it to improve with use and age, as it eventually becomes  a treasured heirloom.
